AI governance is not a technology question. It is a Portrait of a Graduate question. What are we teaching, and why does it matter now more than ever?
Now
AI Literacy Cohorts
Three consecutive years convening professional learning cohorts at RCDS. Building faculty capacity in AI literacy, responsible use, and competency-based learning integration. Teachers leave these sessions with practical strategies they can use the next day.
Portrait of a Graduate and Teacher
Leading development of Portrait of a Graduate and Portrait of a Teacher frameworks at RCDS. Aligning competency-based learning goals across divisions to define what students and educators should embody. AI governance is a Portrait issue because AI shapes how students learn and how teachers must teach.
AI in Education Knowledge Base
Building a structured research wiki synthesizing work from OECD, UNESCO, Brookings, NYCPS, and others. Connecting policy frameworks to classroom practice on AI literacy, cognitive offloading, task stewardship, and governance.
AI Friction Scale
Interactive simulation, built with Jane Beckwith and Mount Vernon Ventures. A decision tool helping educators think carefully about when and how to use AI in student work.

Two endorsements at RCDS. Phase 2 engaged 25 teachers across three divisions in action research using Improvement Science and PDSA cycles. Selected by Middle States out of 100+ schools for a national feature on our AI work.
Conference Presentations
INDEX Academic Conference, NAIS AI Symposium. Presenting on AI integration, friction-based decision making, and sustainable technology change in schools.
The AI Friction Scale
Level 1: No AI
The learner works entirely without AI. All thinking, drafting, revising, and creating is done by the student. This is where the deepest productive struggle occurs.
